TheMotto No. 17. Alright, I’m starting to get amped. One of my fave young artists, Gunna, is set to release the all-important second album, and I’ll definitely have Wunna in rotation thru this on-lockdown Memorial Day weekend (the Young Thug collabs should be interesting). This is the ATL rapper who dripped hard with Lil Baby to the top of the charts, and struck gold with his 2019 Drip or Drown 2 (YSL/300/Atlantic) debut. Will Gunna take his promising career to the next level? Time will reveal. But in the meantime, Gunna’s unleashing so much new content it’s hard to keep up. Don’t worry, though — that’s part of TheMotto’s mission, to curate the wild world of rap. We’re not a small-time thing.

► “Contemporary fame is a function of mind share. Talent helps, but it’s not necessarily a prerequisite. The ability to cause conversation, to stir pots, to cause tizzies is far more crucial. what more can I say:
I’m rooting for Gunna. I liked the kid from day one. Here he is in a rare sitdown with Lil Baby (the duo didn’t do many interviews together) on our 2018 Rap Radar Podcast. Still bummed by the mic difficulties that plaqued this one.
Everything went smooth on this next one, tho. We were in the orange Lambo to celebrate Gunna’s debut. This was that rare Car Test where I hung out with the artist after we wrapped. Gunna and I went to a lovely gentlemen’s club establishment for lunch. We enjoyed some fried chicken and paid no attention to the dancers.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
we know our purpose.
