TheMotto No. 23. Don’t let the beauty and bikini shots blind you, Meg Thee Stallion’s best attribute is her ability to make big music. I mean, it’s an instantly classic hook — I’m a savage / Classy, bougie, ratchet / Sassy, moody, nasty — on par with Fat Joe’s 2004 “Lean Back,” as well as Nelly’s “Country Grammar” and Shawnna on Ludacris’ “What’s Your Fantasy,” both from 2000. The song “Savage” already had huge potential to be a chart-topper, but when you add a rapping Beyoncé feature on top, it was only a matter of time. Ladies and gentlemen, Houston won today!
Meg put the work in to earn this cultural moment next to her hometown legend. She’s confidently owning it, too — like she has since her 2018 “Big Ole Freak” gold breakthrough. The below gold single set 2019’s Suga off ⏬
and “Savage” is actually the third hit single from Suga (1501/300). The album also contains “Captain Hook,” which has also gone gold. Team Meg, Rayna and my guy Liles out here making culture happen.
It’s undeniable: The hot girl is on a hot streak. Formidable fly girl flourish.

unfortunately, the Jagged Edge-112 Verzuz was plagued by sound problems. If you found yourself frustrated throughout the telecast, you were not alone. Allow Swizz Beatz and Timbaland to address it all.

what more can I say:
Congratulations again to Ms. Pete. I’m grateful for our CRWN conversation on March 10, my last live interview before the pandemic lockdown. The crowd at New York City’s Gotham Hall was A+. The energy in the room was electric. Sending good wishes to my friends, colleagues, and family in Queens, Brooklyn, and all the boroughs. My brother’s thugging it out in Woodside. These are tough times, but we’re going to get through it.
And what’s the future of CRWN? Right now, I’m thinking outdoor venues. Our experience is always pretty intimate, so we’ll remain with small crowds of the people who love the artist and contribute with their shouts — of lyrics, of questions — to the conversation. We’ll be doing storytelling in safe environments. Face masks and hand sanitizers and such. It’s gonna be a process to move toward our new “normal.” The who’s- zoomin’-who quarantine content is cool and necessary, but it’s hard to replace the power of in-person conversations. I’m hoping I can get a few meaningful ones in before the end of the year. Be safe, folks. Be smart, and be responsible, and it’ll happen 🙏🏾
