TheMotto No. 48: before Juneteenth came to a close, Beyoncé dropped, “Black Parade,” a roaring declaration of strength and perseverance:
Trust me, they gon’ need an army / Rubber bullets bouncin’ off me / Made a picket sign off your picket fence / Take it as a warning
At TIDAL, we have the extended version. “Parade” is produced by Beyoncé and Derek Dixie. All proceeds of “Black Parade” to benefit Black-owned small businesses.
plus, Beyoncé created a playlist for TIDAL: thirty strong and wide-ranging selections from Nipsey Hussle to Lauryn Hill to Curtis Mayfield to Tierra Whack and more. Listen 🎶🎧

someone leaked City Girls’ new music yesterday, and within a matter of hours, Yung Miami, JT, and Quality Control’s COO and CEO — Kevin “Coach K” Lee and Pierre “Pee” Thomas, respectively — decided to officially release City On Lock (Quality Control/UMG). The single is “Jobs,” the song I was raving about when we had them on the Rap Radar Podcast in February ⤵️

What’s my favorite word? Icy. Northern California’s Saweetie flips Too $hort’s classic 2006 “Blow The Whistle” for her new flex, “Tap In.” Todd Shaw approves ⏬
⤴️ It was no battle. Just pure celebration. Two of R&B’s all-time biggest voices, Alicia Keys and John Legend sang and played their hit-filled catalogues for the latest Verzuz event. Catch the replay and the playlist.
⤴️ Nice to see NPR go this hardcore! I don’t know if there’s a more rough, rugged and raw performance that can be found on Tiny Desk ⤴️ Benny The Butcher spits fire from his couch. Set list includes “Crown For Kings,” “Rubber Bands & Weight” and “5 to 50.”
what more can I say:
Rest in peace: Prodigy passed away 3 years ago today. Honored that B Dot and I had a chance to converse with him in 2016. Yup, we dropped plenty of gems in that Rap Radar Podcast CBS era. Tune in. ⬇️
