And you say New York City! Brooklyn’s finest, Joey Badass, recently dropped his first album in five years, 2000 (Pro Era/Cinematic). It’s an uncompromising, raw, critically-acclaimed triumph, and it’s all up in the debates around who has the best hip-hop album (Kendrick? Pusha? Future? Banks?) of the year. In the clip below, which took place in Manhattan, the actor/rapper breaks down his approach to crafting 2000.

Joey also had kind words and praise for his long-time producer, Statik Selektah. Joey and Statik appeared on the fourth episode of the Rap Radar Podcast way back in August, 2015.
Also check out the visual for one of my faves from 2000, “Zipcodes.” Hey Joey, we’re gonna need more visuals from this album (on TIDAL), my guy!
on my personal radar:
Gotta send a 40th birthday salute to the legend Lil Wayne. We’ve created so much content together through the years — I remain thankful. From the XXL days to my current time at TIDAL, Weezy and I have shared many magic moments. Please peruse a few. Ha!

Rap Radar Live at Revolt: Salute to Detavio and the good folks at Revolt for linking us with Gucci Mane for a historic interview at this year’s Revolt Summit. Love, peace and respect to all those who I connected with in Atlanta! In the below clip, Gucci, for the first time, shares his reflections on the controversial 2020 Verzuz with Jeezy.
Until next week,
