TheMotto No. 4 is yours.
I’m Elliott Wilson, and I’ve been covering hip hop on a pretty-much 24-hour basis via my social feeds since 2008. TheMotto brings it all together in one place — the most important stories and moments of our culture. We’re just getting started on this journey— subscribe to TheMotto.
cover story: Kehlani
Kehlani’s It Was Good Until It Wasn’t hits tonight. A certain Canadian superstar is the one who helped the Oakland, CA native solidify the album title.
(Complex via Nadeska Alexis’ new Apple Music, R&B Now show)
Tory Lanez, another Canadian, is featured on the project with some provocative content.
do remember: Jhene Aiko also makes a highly-anticipated appearance on Kehlani’s “Change Your Life”. Don’t tell the wife I linked to this. Ha!
as we wait for midnight Eastern Time to strike, let’s enjoy the sultry, self-shot, “Toxic (Quarantine Style)” video again, shall we?
boom shake the room:
let’s keep it R&B: Teyana Taylor announces her June 2020 album with an ill cover. G.O.O.D shit.
the images are from Daniel Sannwald who has also done great work with Travis Scott, and LeBron James.
The legend Brandy woke up early this morning to bring her Chance The Rapper-collab to life.
Adele producer Paul Epworth’s new single ‘Love Galaxy’ features Jay Electronica.
big Bay Area biz tonight: E-40 adds The Curb Commentator Channel 1 to his extensively insane discography.
they’re gonna love me for my ambition:
Polo G, I like your new album title, THE GOAT, it rings familiar. Ha! This follow-up to Polo’s gold Die A Legend debut drops May 15. No one can say this Chicago native is short on big goals.

When Crooked was recently on TIDALCheckIn, he spoke with me about his connection with fellow Slaughterhouse MC, Joell Ortiz — today the duo announced a collaborative project, H.A.R.D. due on 5.29. Look at Ronnie!
what more can I say:
I didn’t see anything, I swear. J. Cole’s manager Ib stirred it back up last night, responding to the ongoing rumors that surround an alleged J. Cole-Puffy clash at a 2013 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
I will say that it was one of the greatest parties I’ve ever attended. Everybody was tucked in that spot. I spent most of the night in a section with Cole, Ib, Puff, Cassie, the Carters, etc. But it’s when I went across the room to kick it with Macklemore that all hell broke loose back over where I had been. It was quick! When I got back, Cole and company had exited, and Kendrick and TDE were holding court. On my way out I ran into Drake and OVO and caught a second wind. By this time, even Rihanna had her own section, and was turning up.
My main highlight tho was Justin Timberlake talking to me about this show I had on Life +Times called The Truth. There’s an interview I did with Jay Z at Yankee Stadium, and Timberlake was quoting me details!
JT Tha Bigga Figga (as I call him) said he was inspired, and that we were gonna do our own sit-down. It ain’t too late.
