TheMotto No. 47 is here and while there’s a lot of new music to celebrate on this Juneteenth, Noname for answering J. Cole’s “Snow In Tha Bluff” challenge is leading the pack. Her hypnotic blast, “Song 33,” is produced by Madlib, and with a running time of a li’l over a minute, Noname wastes no words. Excellent execution.

You should’ve been downtown / The people are rising. This new song is signature work from Anderson Paak who assembles an all-star cast of creatives (including SIR, Syd and a special guest verse from Jay Rock) to bring his protest anthem to life. And with another truly creative Dave Meyers-directed visual 🔽 Drake agrees.
from behind her piano, A Keys lets her emotions flow and condemns police violence on this stirring new song ⏬
John Legend returns with his new album, Bigger Love (John Legend/Columbia) and I’m glad to see there’s a collaboration with Jhene Aiko. This is a potent duet that I didn’t know I needed ⤵️ Sounds so beautiful, don’t you agree?
as climax to her strong rollout, Teyana Taylor unleashes her 23-track The Album (G.O.O.D/Def Jam). There’s plenty of brilliant stuff to digest, but this collab with Erykah Badu, that flips her classic 1997 “Next Lifetime,” is an early favorite.
the loss of George Floyd remains top of mind, and H.E.R. captures the feeling with this powerful track ⬇️ the melodies draw you in but her spoken words at the end are where the force is.
allow me to re-introduce myself:
KYLE, where you been? / We need a slap. Ventura’s KYLE struck gold with his 2018 Light Of Mine (Atlantic), but has been quiet for some time. Produced by Hit-Boy, this bouncy feel-good bop is needed ⏬
allow us to re-introduce ourselves:
your hip hop dreams are now fulfilled: there is new Public Enemy work, produced by DJ Premier. That’s right, I said, new Public Enemy produced by DJ Premier — and the message is clear: FDT gotta go … Orange hair / Fear of the comb over.
what more can I say:
good to see folks in tune with Wale’s new EP, The Imperfect Storm (Warner)—like I am. One of the strongest lines of the year is found below. Folarin pen game flourish.
