Much like our previous guest, Lloyd Banks, The Game is an artist I did big business with over the years — but until recently never had much in-person interaction. I enjoyed our recent talk — the double platinum, Grammy-nominated MC talked about rappers being killed right now, how dangerous things were in his heyday, and about being thankful for not getting caught up in anything that might have brought about untimely demises. He also talked about why he thinks Jay-Z cleared all eight samples for Game’s new DRILLMATIC Heart vs. Mind. My favorite moment? I surprise revealed all four of my previous XXL covers — The Game shared a few memories of each.

“Hate It or Love It” video.
“How We Do” — a rare (2005) performance with 50 Cent.
From 2005. The Game The Documentary DVD.
“Dreams” — a rare performance (BET).
That time in 2015 when Game brought Drake to Compton.
This LA Leakers freestyle on an unreleased Hit-Boy beat.
The “One Blood” remix.
The Game’s recent show at L.A.’s The Novo was amazing. July 2022. Yup, I was there.
It’s been a West Coast type of week for me (salute Ant Saleh). Me and Hunter, my college-freshman nephew, posted up on the second of Kendrick Lamar’s four sold out show at Staples (pardon me, Crypto.com Arena. SMH.) Related: in 2016, Rap Radar Podcast spoke with Dave Free, K Dot’s partner in all things creative. This was way before the dynamic duo launched pgLang, so enjoy the insight on the beginnings of a friendship-turned-business-partnership.
On my personal radar:
I am officially on the Ice Spice bandwagon. Yup, “Munch” is an undeniable bop.
But it’s a song the Bronx drill-rapper dropped last November that I got stuck in my head. How can she lose?
And it’s dope to see the icon Cardi B with Ice Spice. The mutual happiness and respect is so clear.

massive appreciation:
Thank you to our podcast peers Rory and Mal who had me as a two-time guest on their special Made In America-based 100th episode. The laughs was flowing and I appreciate the platform. I teased my Jamie Foxx reaction clip last newsletter but here’s the full segments of me dolo and with B. Dot below.
And finally, the mysterious Greg Miller from Big Hassle has been Game’s publicist since those early Interscope days and always looks out. You are appreciated!
Until next week,
Elliott Wilson
We need more MCs like him today’s polluted rap game because rap music should be for the streets, not for the clubs.
