The artwork does not do justice to Cardi B’s “WAP.” Her sexy (and raunchy!) return single features Meg Thee Stallion, and TheMotto No. 73 is all about it. For those who don’t know, WAP stands for Wet Ass P… I won’t do it. Ha! Clean edit: Gushy. Which for the record, is a word Cardi hates. She told me as much during our TIDAL Check In (press ▶️ below).

Man, listen. The erotic content of this song and its video will have Uncle Luke blushing. It’s actually part of a long line of explicit hip hip content. I been outside for minute, so I recall when Sir Mix-A-Lot’s 1992 “Baby Got Back (I Like Big Butts)” was a scandal. Think: Nelly feat. The St. Lunatics’ 2000 “Tip Drill.” Think Ludacris 2003 “P-Poppin.” Think this one-hit wonder. Actually, think: BET’s entire and controversial Uncut era — 2000-06. Me, I was out here with Bonsu Thompson creating the Eye Candy section of XXL with boss creatives like Melyssa Ford and Gloria Velez. But to me “WAP” is deeper than the sexy vocab and theatrics. Like Nicki Minaj’s sexy 2014 “Anaconda,” “WAP” has the women who actually make the music, creating the video. It’s their vision.

And, most importantly, this is the return of Cardi. After a nine month hiatus, the Bronx’s newest bomber has officially launched her journey towards a second album. Back in 2018, when “Bodak Yellow” was still on top, some questioned whether Cardi could make a good album. In fact, Cardi created the Grammy award-winning classic, Invasion Of Privacy. There’s lot of pressure on her to avoid the sophomore jinx (is that still a thing?), but I know Ms. Belcalis will excel.
